Trimble goes for VICO

As I wrote about earlier Trimble is on a BIM a acquisition spree these days.

Among the companies/products they have bought recently are Tekla and Sketchup. So it’s not small acquisitions we are talking about.

And now it seems they are doing even more to secure a leading role in the ‘BIM in the field’ business with the acquisition of VICO software – maker of scheduling and site planning software for contractors.

VICO’s products are in many ways direct competitors to the Autodesk’s Navisworks products, but they have a special focus on ‘Location based scheduling’, a method that is getting more and more attention these days.

So now the lines are drawn even tighter between Trimble and Autodesk, and BIM for the contractor seems to be the big battleground.

But one thing is buying a lot of companies and products (which seems to be the current strategy for both companies these days), an other thing is making the big ‘BIM suite’ where everything works together seamlessly – Autodesks products are far from perfect on this point, but they seem however to have a good heads start.

But one thing is certain: We have only seen the top of the iceberg in this fight for market shares.
BIM is Big Business!
